Missing Tool Box in AC 8

Does anyone know why when I open a tutorial step file, that my toolbox does not load up? I have been to options, customize, palette shapes and found the settings for the toolbox, info box, coordinate box, and control box all of these have check marks when I uncheck the info box it disappears and then recheck the info box it reappears, likewise with the coordinate box and control box but not with the toolbox. I have moved all the windows around to be sure that it was not hidden from view, I have closed AC 8 down and reopened several times, tried several different step files lessons, even rebooted my system, and reopened AC 8 but no tool box. I have worked up to lesson 14 and I know I have used this tool box before but for some reason it now will not load up. I also found the windows, floating palettes where it lists these as hide or show all of these work except the toolbox, it just will not show up. Any suggestions or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

James,
Are you working in AC 8.0 or AC 8.1 ?
If you are working in 8.0, I would strongly
recommend upgrading to AC 8.1 because 8.0
is so flawed that strangeness like what you
describe happen allot.
8.1 is a free upgrade available through
your reseller.

Thanks Peter for the quick reply, I am running 8.0 I will check with my supervisor and see if they have 8.1 on any of the other systems.

James,
I would also suggest that you completely un-install 8.0
and run a disk repair because 8.0 writes invalid system files.
8.1 is not a patch but a complete version with it's own install CD.

Also, James, once you install 8.1 from the (free) CD, be SURE to download the latest patches for it as even 8.1 had a lot of bugs/instabilities --- but was quite stable by the final patch. You should see "(2284)" in the lower right corner of your About dialog (Help menu). ALSO... the library had bugs, so be sure to download the updated 8.1 library. Patches for US users are mirrored here:

I only beat this dead horse because I would say that 80% of the firms that I have visited were running outdated versions of ArchiCAD, all too many running the version on the initial release CD. (Yikes.)

Cheers,
Karl
