Multi ArchiCAD Sessions when updating Drawings.

Hi there.

1st time poster, long time reader….

Has anyone encountered a similar problem of this kind when updating drawings from a separate Archicad file.
If so, can you give me some advice on how to stop this from happening, or if this topic has been covered before, point me in the right direction.

As you are aware that when you separate out your drawing layouts from a master file,
ArchiCAD will automatically start up another ArchiCAD to allow for the updating process to run in the background.

In our office we are currently running about 15 Dell 380 computers, and 10 Dell 390 machines.
Both models are running 2gig of ram, and have dual monitor graphics cards.

Of the 15 Dell 380 machines, only 7 of these along with 1 Dell 390 machine will update the drawings as intended,
(ie open another single session of ArchiCAD and update drawings as necessary).

All of the other machines in the office open a new session of ArchiCAD to update individual drawings.
(If I want to update 10 different drawings, 10 different ArchiCAD sessions will start up).

We have had our IT manager look into differences between the machines, and the only difference that was noticeable was the video driver.
Out IT manager removed the newer Video driver from one of the 390 machines and replaced it with the same driver that the other 390 machine
(The single machine that updated correctly) had. And we ran a test, this seemed to fix the problem.
However, when you logged into the network under a normal login, (not with Administrator rights) the problem reverted back to
How it was.

We then went to the correctly working 390 machine, and did a test update, and it was working fine.

So I’m not sure if it’s an admin access thing, a video driver thing, or a common ArchiCAD problem?

Anyone out there with any pointers?

Regards.
Rob

Yes, we have the same problem on macs in our office, i am working on large school refurb/new build which will be phased, so there are a number of .pln files and we have one .pln file acting as a central layout book file which bring all the drawings into. this file is constantly updating, and states that all drawings have been modified, even when not being open or worked on.

At times i may have 11 instances of archicad running, which is ridiculous.
the need to update should be user controlled. we have reported the problem to our UAS support team, and i understand it has been passed onto graphisoft, and may be corrected in version 12?

basically, there is no way to stop this from happening, watch this space!
