Hi all,

Please find attached Dell Computer Quotes.
Choice of:

1. Dell Precision T3400
- Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 (3.0Ghz) 375W
- 4MB L@ Cache, 1333Mhz
- 2GB 667 Mhz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
- 256MB PCIex16 NIVIDIA quadro NVS290

2. Dell Precision T5400
- QuadCore intelxeon E5410 (2.33Ghz)
- 4MB L@ Cache, 1333Mhz
- 2GB 667 Mhz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
- 256MB PCIex16 NIVIDIA quadro NVS290

I would really appreciate any help if you could.
I'm not much of a computer spec expert.; I need to choose a computer that will be good for Architectural - Archicad3D modelling and Cinema 4d Renderings etc.

Thanx in advance
Jon

I just got the Dual Quad Core Xeon 2.8 in my new Mac Pro and it is VERY fast. Much faster than the CoreDuo in my laptop. I assume that the Core2Duo is somewhere in between, but probably on the slower side. I recommend the Xeon. BTW the newer Xeon chips (ie "Harpertown" - E5440 I think) are supposed to be quite a bit faster than the one in your quote

You might also look at buying a Mac and installing Windows (assuming you need Windows). It's much cheaper and better build quality than the equivalent Dell.
Can we connect these M90's to a TV so we can see the same screen on the computer and a TV using an s-video connection or other? I havent tried that yet.

Steve I see you are using the Windows XP x64 Edition . Is it a mistake to have the 32-bit?
yes.

Do you have time to extrapolate?

Depends on the software you are using, and on how much of the 4GB of RAM you want to get any use out of. 32bit systems can't use as much RAM as the 64bit system. Also, it is only a matter of time before most of the software you are using, even ArchiCAD will be 64 bit.

The graphics card has it's own didicated memory anyway. You will not suffer enough to notice with your 32bit system.

I am rendering with Maxwell and the 64bit system is faster for that.

Last Question..(strike that)

Do you use a Dual Monitor with your M90 and the 512MB nVidia 2500FX M? If so, any issues?

Steve, are you not a Fan of Vista.
I never use more than two monitors. I am using only the laptop monitor most of the time now. I don't like the eye strain from using mismatched monitors. I don't have matching pairs.

I also like not being hassled with viruses. So far I have not had any hits with the 64bit system. I am not sure there are any out there that would effect me yet. ?

I don't know enough about Vista to like it or not like it.

I liked Windows NT. The Windows x64 Pro is the current evolution of that same operating system. It works great for me.
