If you are adding a single file (object), you can only add those in your Embedded Library.
If you are adding a folder with many objects in it, or an LCF (Library Container File), then those you can only add as Linked Libraries.

Open the Library Manager > Click the "Add..." buton > Select your .lcf file > Click the "Choose" button > Finally: Reload your Libraries.
