Archicad 28 No Library

Brad Norris

Just downloaded 28.  Migrated and open a project from 26.  The entire model is without library parts and surfaces. I went to library manager and the 28 libraries are "missing". What did I do wrong? Seems there is no library 28?  The entire model is the dreaded purple and black checkerboard. and library parts are the big black blobs.

Operating system used: Windows 11 pro

As mentioned many times in other posts, there is no migration from older files to 28 with regards to library objects.

You can open an old file in 28, but load the old libraries and continue to work on it with those old libraries.

Do not load the 28 library packs as well.

You should only use the 28 library packs in a new job created from a template specifically made for 28.

If you are opening an older file in 28 you have to ignore all of the .libpack libraries and only load the Archicad 28 Library (which is actually the 27 Library) the MEP 28 Library and the Migration Libraries. That should load all of your library parts. Obviously if you have any custom Libraries you will need to load them too. This article may help you.

Yes I think it is rather confusing.

It is called "Archicad library 28", but it contains the version 27 library.

You load this folder as you would any linked library in previous versions.

Or if you still have 27 installed, your old files should automatically link to those old libraries in the 27 installation folder.

That is fine as well - so long as you don't un-install 27.

Probably it is better to re-link old files to the 28 library folder (really 27) in the 28 installation files.

It is the same library and then you won't have issues if you do un-install 27.

I think its normal to long time users that automatically the migration library will be there so now AC28 has a different approach with the library management.

In the end what is your Objective?

Yep, I looked but didn't see the other posts, my bad.  But, I loaded the older library and everything is showing perfectly, EXCEPT, the big black blob is still there as if the library part is missing.  This is only happening on windows.

What does the warnings in the Library Manager say about missing objects?

these windows are from 26.  The only warnings are about the missing 28 library
