You might want to double check that you don't have some extra nodes crossing up and making an invalid polygon. They can still show up sometimes in the 3D but won't work as GDL.
...and view the object at 90 degrees in perspective mode at a side view.

For some reason the file i was in wasnt allowing me to view the object i had created and saved to the library, yet when i created the object in a new file i was able to save it to my library and use it no problem from the file i had been working on. Any thoughts on why that might have happened.

Then go to the Library Manager and add that folder to the loaded libraries. That should do the trick.
