I bought ZoomGDL a year or two ago after comparing it with Archiforma, GDL Toolbox, and Shade. Although I haven't use it that much, it definitely surpasses the limitations of Archiforma and Toolbox. It's got a somewhat quirky interface (though not nearly as awkward as Shade), and can be slightly buggy, but on the strong plus side, you can bring up front, side, top and 3D windows simultaneously -- great for visualizing as you go.
Nothing available at the time was anything close to being as user friendly and intuitive as other non-GDL apps like Strata, or now MaxonForm.
In terms of wishful thinking, the ideal might starting an email campaign to get Cheetah3D to export GDL -- it's made for Mac 0SX, and is the most amazingly simple, smooth, effortless, user-friendly, "hey even I could do that!" interface of any 3D app I've spent more than ten minutes fumbling over. And the thing's CHEAP AS DIRT. The guy's got a long list of file types he'd like to export to but is open to adding to it...
