HELP BUILDING OR PURCHASING OBJECT LIBRARY (Interior Furnishings and Fixtures)

Jeff Galbraith
Advocate
We are trying our first project in Archicad, looking at transitioning our office of 20+ staff over from Vectorworks. Modeling the building and getting drawings related has gone pretty well. However we are struggling to find good GDL content to build a library of interior elements such as furniture, light fixtures, plumbing fixture etc. suitable for 3D renderings in addition to plans, elevations. Most of the files I download from websites either don't import correctly (there is no or only partial 3D geometry), are poorly modeled, or they have very little to no GDL functionality. Can anyone tell me what large commercial firms using ArchiCAD do for furniture for interior design plans and renderings? I've spent about a days worth of work searching for, downloading and importing content and have almost nothing to show for it.

Are other firms paying programmers to create their own private libraries of GDL objects, or are they just importing meshes and foregoing BIM functionality for furniture for renderings?

I appreciate the help.

Look, the only solution to the last mentioned problem, is to change the location of your uploaded library part so that you never reach the 260 characters mark (path, filename, and file extension included), and that is the easy fix.

On other hand, I was asking that if I can extend the characters path limit safely in windows, why ArchiCAD does't accept it !!!
A good friend of mine have once told me that I´m so brute that I´m capable of creating a GDL script capable of creating GDLs.

It is probably coded that way in Archicad.
Until a few years ago we could only have something like 16 characters for the element ID and many other fields had very low restrictions as well.
I think some still have restrictions but they have been increased fortunately.

Dear Jeff
if you need architectural lighting fixture please see my post:
https://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=58038&p=303601&hilit=simes#p303601

SIMES S.p.A. (made in Italy) produces outdoor lighting fixtures but some models can be installed also in indoor.
All lcf file are free available on our website and are complete of 3D shape+IES file so the light effect are closed to the reality. Please test them on your project and let me know.

Have a nice day
Nicola
