Library 8 always missing on startup

See attached image...

Each time I load AC 8.1, the ArchiCAD Library 8 is shown as missing. I'm a student running the .edu version of 8.1 and seeing this error message each time wouldn't bother me if I had access to all the pre-defined objects in Library 8. The reason I'm a bit concerned is that as I work through the Step-by-Step tutorial (appears to be using v8), I see window and other objects used that I can't find anywhere in the 8.1 library.

Is there something I must import in order to get the complete library compatible with 8.1 or does the .edu version not support a full library?

TIA
Alan

Alan,
Looking at your JPG, I see that the missing library is Archicad library 8
but you do have loaded the unextracted form of Archicad library 81.pla.
Because you have this library I assume you are using AC 8.1 not
AC 8.0. I don't know how the older version library got loaded into
your project but you don't need it as the Archicad library 81.pla.
is complete. I say it is complete but you say you can't find certain
library parts. Which parts can't you find ?
Thank you,
Peter Devlin

The file that you are opening is asking for 8.0 library. Simply install 8 and reload the library. Even better, see what objects are missing and replace them with the same ones from the 8.1 library. AFAIR, they differ only in the suffix .1 in their names.

I'm using v8.1 educational version with the AC Step-by-Step tutorial.

Each time I start AC and load a tutorial exercise I get the same error about Library 8 being missing.

The tutorial movies seem to correspond to the included exercises, but when I click on the Object button to begin to browse through the object library I cannot find the objects which correspond to the ones shown in the movie. This leads me to believe that the tutorial and the associated videos may have been made by Graphisoft using Library 8 but that v8.1 educational version may only have a cut-down version of Library 8.1, which does not include all the objects in Library 8.

I saw on tr.graphisoftus.com that there were 2 files which *might* be of some use - a Library Updater program and an apparently newer version of Library 8.1 than the one in the .edu version I have (my library file is dated sometime in January 2004 if memory serves me correctly).

I tried using the updater but it caused more problems for me....more objects were reported as being missing upon restart/reload either through my mis-application or misunderstanding of how to correctly apply the update or an error somewhere in the process.

At this point I have uninstalled AC completely and will re-install it in the morning and try again.

From what little of AC 8.1 I have experienced thus far, it's a great program - objects done right for a change. Too bad I bought v8.1 just about 30 days before v9 was released - v9 looks to be even more logical in use than v8.1 - I'll just have to wait until the student budget allows for an upgrade.

Alen,
I just checked on tr.graphisoftus.com and the library updater
(2284) can be used in the EDU version of AC 8.1 (some patches can't).
As I remember, this updater installs a complete new library
and leaves the existing library with the appendix "old" added to the name.

The AC 8.1 library has some folders called "classic....." which
contain 8.0 versions of some 8.1 library parts.
Sometimes these folders are overlooked.

You may be right that the tutorial was written for AC 8.0
You might also be right about the EDU library being stripped down.
I am sorry I can't verify this.
Perhaps someone else who has both versions can.

You might try copying the exact name of a part mentioned in the
tutorial and doing a "Find" for that name.

It sounds like this project was started in 8.0 and then opened
in AC 8.1 and the AC library 81.pla was added
and the 8.0 library was moved from the disk that AC
is looking in to find the libraries.

If you still have the 8.0 library, put it where AC can find it,
load it into the project via the library manager,
and remove the AC library 81.pla so you don't get
duplicate library parts error messages.

AC 8.1 can work with the 8.0 library and when you save
the project it will be updated to an AC 8.1 project.
This way you can use AC 8.1 rather than 8.0 which is full of bugs.

Thank you,

To all who have responded:

I found what the problem was:

When I purchased AC 8.1 I also purchased the Step-by-Step Tutorial and Training Guide - which came with it's own CD.

When I installed AC 8.1 I did not look carefully at the dates of the tutorial files on the AC 8.1 CD and compare them with the dates on the stand-alone training CD. As it turns out, the stand-alone training CD was produced about 12 months prior to v8.1

I don't know whether the non-.edu version includes the tutorials but my version of v8.1 .edu does, which I did not notice until today.

To make a long story short, my libraries appear not to complain any longer because I'm using the tutorial version from the v8.1 CD. Looks like my vendor had old stock training CD's on the shelf and shipped that to me.

Sorry to bother everyone. Thanks again for the help.
