Simple question, how do people prefer their libraries to be arranged?

to date we've always used our own "proprietary" categories, however it gets tricky between different users.

a lot of people prefer/use the CSI MasterFormat 2004 standard. what do you prefer?

Office standards are organized by CSI categories.

Project libraries usually don't have enough custom parts to need much organization. When they do I set up folders simply and clearly as needed.

ok great, that's what we've always done. It can just get a bit confusing when different people from different companies use the same library, so thinking some sort of standard would be useful.

The CSI format used here in the US is how the US archicad default library is set up. The international library version of archicad is set up out of the box quite differently, with very few divisions and so difficult to find parts. I've heard from several international users including Australia that they have adopted the CSI format.

I would add to Matthew's approach to make sure all custom objects have the CORRECT SUBTYPE assigned. Then when the library settings box is set to SUBTYPE VIEW as opposed to FOLDER VIEW all users can quickly and easily find the part(s) they are seeking.
