Missing Detail-Marker

Mostly I've been working with old 7.0 files brought into 8.1. I've just noticed that the 8.1 library does not include the Detail-Marker that used to be included in the 70 library. This was a very useful part. It could be modified to any geometric shape and also included extensions for noting wall types and such. Anyone know of a similar part in 8.1 or a way to bring in the old part? I tried un-archiving the 70 library for 8 and moving the library part to our office library, but I could not see the part in 8.1. Loading the entire 70 library worked.

I take it that no one else was using this part. Sad! It was a very useful part that showed the power of GDL. One part could be any type of marker. GS please bring this back to 8.1

Millard,

Your problem seems strange.

I use custom parts almost exclusively, so I can't say about the detail marker you mention specifically, but I have had no problem loading parts individually or moving them into the office library or a project specific library.

Have you tried loading the part by itself?

I did try unarchiving the 70 library for 8.1 and moving the part to our office library, but I could not even see the detail marker in the 8.1 library browser. I can see it by going to the finder window, but not in Archicad. I assume that there is more to it than just loading the individual part and I'm worried that perhaps there is some reason that this part was not included in the 8.1 library.

By the way Mac 10.3.3 Archicad 8.1 (2256)

check the sub-type of the object - it may well be in your loaded libraries, but if it is a 'marker' type object, it will probably only show for use in the marker drop-down selections within the detail/section or door and window tools

open the object assign it another sub-type classification - see screenshot.

Thanks Ben, Ill try that tomorrow. I still have to wonder why this object was left out of the 8.1 library.

probably because the detail tool itself was launched as a new feature - combined with the thorough organisation of objects into 'specialist' subtypes. it may have got lost as simply a 2D parametric object and found itself developed and classed into a subtype that can only be read by tools/objects that are able to access that sub-type?

i'm just guessing here . . .

good luck

I agree with Millard that Detail-Marker 70 is a very useful symbol, especially for beginners who have not yet mastered the millions of other intricacies of ArchiCAD. I have used it for my own line-and-fill details, as a triangle-with-number for revisions, as an ID marker for cabinets while I am setting up my own Interactive Schedule for them. Perhaps this is a "crutch" but you can't expect every user to be up and running with all the complexities of each new software release, and we really really do need to get those construction documents out of the office. Graphisoft, please give us back this Detail-Marker (with another name if you wish) in the next Library.

Oh, of course, it makes sense now. With a part of the same name already loaded as a detail marker subtype ArchiCAD was ignoring the additional plain vanilla part. If you add the old part under a new name it should be visible in the library browser. (Assuming that this is what is happening)

No good just renaming the part. Renaming plus changing the subtype worked. Thanks for all your help. I can now give up the 70 library!
