Multiply "A" times "B"

I know that I knew how to do this at one point in time. I have a simple "Block" object. It represents 2x6 PT decking. I need to find the surface area of the object in the master script....Parameter A x Parameter B......then divide by the surface area of a 2x6x16' (7.33 sq. ft.) to find the number of 16' pieces required.

I seem to recall that there is a certain function you have to perform on the A and B parameters in order to change them from feet and inches to something that you can multiply.

I feel ridiculous asking this because it seems like it should be so simple. Any help would be appreciated.
