Saved and replaced objects..

I make changes to a custom object but the placed objects are not the same. I have to manually select them and change them. They get distorted, fill color, etc. How to avoid that? Also, my custom objects are fairly simple with three pen color without any fill but there is a long list of pen colors. Where do these pen colors come from?

For the distortion :
You have to edit your object, then add the following line under the Parameter editor screen :
LOCK "A", "B"
For the pens, check the box "Replace objects pen" or something else (my Archicad is in French...) under Plan / Section in your object options dialog box.
