can anyone tell me if you can get dimensions to show eg doors, windows , wall etc by easily or if you have to put a marker in on every element thanks

I don't understand exactly what you want to do but you can use the Automatic Dimensioning command, or you can select all Doors/Windows/Walls in question and Label them.

The walls you have to dimension - as Laszlo said, automatic dimensioningis the fastest.
