door help?

I am trying to place a door in the walls highlighted, but apparently Im not doing it right...I tried setting the door sill to floor 1 height method as well as sill to wall base, neither of which showed anything in plan. It becomes visible in the correct location in 3D but not selectable...what am I doing wrong here?

For that matter, I cant place doors ANYWHERE in my project, regardless of their height from floor 1...
