Smarter route creation for MEP systems

Efficient modeling is key when working with complex MEP systems. MEP Designer provides dedicated tools that let you route ducts and pipes quickly while keeping their technical data accurate.

Tools like Magic Wand, automatic branch generation, flexible pipe and duct segments, and parameter editing with the tracker help you model systems faster, adjust them as the design evolves, and maintain consistent MEP data across your project. This approach reduces errors, keeps documentation clear, and ensures your project information is always up to date.

Use Magic Wand to generate MEP routes

The Magic Wand lets you automatically create ducts or pipes by tracing existing geometry such as lines, polylines, arcs, or edges. This is useful when you want to quickly convert reference drawings into MEP routes, saving time when working with large system layouts.

To generate an MEP route with Magic Wand:

  • Activate the Duct or Pipe tool.
  • Press and hold the Spacebar to activate the Magic Wand.
  • Click on a line, polyline, or edge that represents the desired path.
  • MEP Designer automatically generates the MEP route along that geometry.

Model flexible pipe or duct segments

Flexible segments are useful when modeling elements that cannot be represented as rigid straight sections, such as connections near equipment or diffusers. In MEP Designer, flexible pipes and ducts allow you to represent these conditions while maintaining system data and adapting easily to irregular routing paths.

To create a flexible segment:

  • Activate the Flexible Duct or Flexible Pipe tool.
  • Click to define the starting connection point.
  • Click additional points to define the flexible path.
  • Double-click to finish the segment.

Generate branches automatically

When extending an existing MEP route, MEP Designer can automatically create the required branch connections by inserting the appropriate fittings, maintaining correct system continuity and reducing the need to place them manually.

To create a branch from an existing route:

  • Activate the Duct or Pipe tool.
  • Hover over an existing MEP element until the connection node appears.
  • Click the node and start drawing the new route.
  • MEP Designer automatically inserts the appropriate branch fitting to connect the new segment.

Change parameters with the Tracker

The Tracker lets you adjust parameters such as size, elevation, or offset while placing or editing MEP elements, allowing you to make quick changes without opening additional dialogs and keeping your workflow fast and uninterrupted.

To modify parameters using the Tracker:

  • Start placing or editing a duct or pipe segment.
  • When the Tracker appears, press Tab to switch between editable fields.
  • Type the desired value (for example diameter, width, or elevation).
  • Press Enter to apply the change.
