Quick Selection tool (magnet icon) doesn't work in 3d window like version 15, 14, 13, 12,...
Space bar activates it in 2d.
What am I missing?
Clicking on a surface in 3d to select an object, rather than just the edge or node. How is it done in 16?
Thanks.

Tried reinstalling AC16 without importing settings from AC15 to see if that helped. But no difference.
Also ran the consolidation of libraries to see if that helped, no difference.
I have tried turning 3D anti aliasing on and off to no avail.
Pressing the space bar tries to change the state of the "magnet" button but it remains greyed out. It only becomes live once you select an object, which is completely useless.
I've opened the "problem" project on another machine running AC16 in the office and the problem remains.
Other office projects randomly seem to either work or have the same problem. Truly bizarre.
I cannot for the life of me find a setting in the AC15 project that would cause the object selection to malfunction once its imported into 16? It makes absolutely no sense.

I'm going to ask you something that may be totally obvious, but is worth checking. The selection arrow in AC16 now has two states, the traditional one that selects elements, and a new one that is used to select morph sub-elements. The traditional state shows the cursor arrow in black, the new option has the arrow in white. Please check to make sure that the arrow is set to the traditional black (whole element selection) since the magnet may not be functional for the sub-element state.

In ArchiCAD 16 the Quick Selection is greyed out in 3D Wireframe mode by design. Changing between the 3D wireframe and shading modes might cause the issue you observed.
As a workaround, please try the followings:
1. Open View/3D View Options/3D Window Settings
2. Switch from OpenGL to Internal Engine mode
3. Set Shaded Mode from Raster to the default Analytic Mode and click OK
4. Open 3D Window Settings again and switch back to OpenGL engine
After clicking OK, the Quick Selection option should be usable again.
Please let me know if you need further help.

I have the same annoying problem. But I don't know if it is a bug or a change, since I read this in archicadwiki:
Quick Selection is Disabled in Wireframe Mode
In Wireframe and Hidden Line 3D display modes the Quick Selection (Magnet icon) is no longer available by design.
This is the link:
Thank you for any suggestions

But in hidden line it could be considered as a bug depending on how you look at it.
You can't see the colour of the surfaces but they are still there as they hide the lines.
I would consider it as a bug that we can't use quick select now in hidden line mode.

Barry wrote:Agreed. Hidden Line Mode is the best way to check the accuracy of the model and know what it will look like in section/elevation windows (surfaces in plane, material's match between planes), so the ability to select by surface in Hidden Line Mode should be brought back.
