AC11 Little improvements......

Anonymous
Not applicable
Wanted to start a list of AC11 Little improvements......which are not announced:

First Selection outline now is shown in dots
Second Selection outline is shown in Dot Dash Dot

Nice, yet still short cut C for changing of the method is still not implemented, must be very hard to code it in!

Has anyone else noticed that AC11 Teamwork files no longer have .ADM files?
The information stored in the .ADM file is now included in the .PLP file. It was a constant source of error that the ADM and the PLP file could fall out of sync (either when reverting to a backup, or caused by I/O problems), so it is simpler and more robust not to have ADM files. It is a baby-step, but an important one, IMHO.
Oh, I love it. The ADM file caused me all kinds of problems.

and second little worsening (always on OS X): with AC11 seems I can't *plot* to my HP DJ500 so I did until AC10, using direct TCP/IP connection, but I must use system driver (also to plot), but... HP DJ 500 driver isn't selectable in the driver list (seems I can select only Postscript driver). So the only way I found is to use Print instant as Plot, that is much slower
There are 2 ways to handle this. GS did this in full knowledge, but I don't know why. Here is their reply in beta testing...

Please try to add your plotter via ’HP Jet Direct – Socket’ protocol and let me know the result.

I did this and it worked fine, so it is really just a change in the way to do it. What boggles my mind is the lack of information provided. The book says to go to "help", and help has...

From the Connection pop-up, you can specify whether a local modem or printer port is used, or choose AppleTalk or TCP/IP protocols for network plotters. When TCP/IP protocol is selected, click the Setup button to enter the IP address (or fully qualified domain name) and port number of the desired network plotter.

Which has nothing to do with the way you have to do it now????

However, I didn't do this. I use Plotflow. Plot to a spool folder and set Plotflow up as before. That wasn't changed.. yet. I would recommend Plotflow anyway. I haven't plotted directly from AC in years. Plotflow is great. You can spool to it, then shut down AC, or move on to another PLN, and the plotting continues.

Hi Greg, do you also plan on eliminating the pln.lck file? Seems like another arcane bit of rubbish who's function should be built in.

I almost like it... it tells you before you try whether someone is signing in or not (so you don't bother right away)

You may wish to review this article explaining a change between AC10 & 11.

Unfortunately, the side-effect of the rewrite was that the plotter settings for ArchiCAD 10 are not compatible with the ArchiCAD 11 plotter drivers. Therefore, in ArchiCAD 11 you have to set up the plotter again. You can not preserve the old settings.

yet another good reason to use plotflow

In ArchiCAD 11 you can use any connection type that MacOSX supports.

Any connection? That's not true... if it was so I didn't have problems, I did all right. The thing I don't know, is that I must create a HP socket TCP/IP printer (that let me not select HP driver so as bonjour connection) and use this. Here you can see the two Printers I created (one Bonjour for printing trough HP driver and one TCP associated to a General Postscript Driver, only to plot from Archicad).
You can now reshape a Zone without having to have it's background fill displayed.

The "Vertical Range" within the S/E and IE dialogs can now be measured from the Marker's Home Story (instead of limited to Project Zero).

You are not Printing, you are Plotting!
I don't see why you Plot. It IS true, Archicad supports any Printer that MacOSX supports. If you Print.
But OSX knows nothing about Plotters. So if you Plot, you will have to establish the link from Archicad like you did.
If you just Print, you won't have this problem. And avoid some others, too.

i don't know about any drawbacks with Printing. Why?
