I'm trying to move nodes on objects (not translating the entire object but only the endpoint), and I would like to, say, add 4" to the total length 'X' of the object. However if I type in '4" ' then the entire object scales back to become exactly 4" long, instead of being X + 4". What are the appropriate keys to hit to do this, or else who has a nice workaround?
Thanks in advance!
Devin

You are close. To move a specific distance from an object or known node the procedure for Feet+Inches is:
1. Place cursor on top of point, intersection, etc
2. To move to the right type X(dist)+ for example to move 2"-0" to the right you would type X2+
3. To move to the left of the point is X(dist)-- or X(dist)-+ because of using english units you need to use 2 dashes (minus signs). For metric units or decimal feet you only need 1 dash.
---
This works for coordinates in X, Y and Z.
For other angles you can rotate the drawing and then use the regular coordinates.
---
The other option is to grab the end point and after having the guideline in the correct direction use Shift+R and type the distance.
