ArchiCAD 10 - What About My Wishes?

Anonymous
Not applicable
Sorry this is so long, but I have a series of personal wishes, and I'm wondering if any of them were incorporated into ArchiCAD 10. Although I was on the Beta test list, I had almost no time to play with it, so I'm just going ask what's in there and see what kind of responses I get.

1 - Can it do details of details?

2 - Can a default color be assigned to layers?

3 - Does dimension text have a background mask like regular text does?

4 - Does the layout portion still use absolute paths to find external linked documents? It other words, if I link a Word document, can it look in my project's folder first, or does it always look for "Q:\ArchiCAD 9\......."?

5 - Does the Distance portion of the section marker still use some mysterious algorithm to select pens for the contours and fills? [http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=170&highlight=]

6 - Is the Witness Line Offset specified in points, or is it still in inches?

7 - Does the Edit Selection Set dialog have more properties than just layer and pen? I'm specifically looking for Linetype, Material, Fill Pen, etc..

8 - Is there an auditing function that can check the database for possible problems, and fix them? [http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=9287&highlight=]

9 - When you use a Reference Level, do the elevation dims still have that stupid text appended to the measurement? i.e. "(First Reference Level)" [http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=7364&highlight=]

10 - Do elevation dimensions have a parameter for typing in the dimension target, such as "T.O.F.F."? [http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=7361&highlight=]

11 - Is the dimension text on elevation dimensions placed any better? [http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=7363&highlight=]

12 - Does AC10 utilize double-clicking? [http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=2626&highlight=]

13 - Can you sort the stuff in the Project Map by Reference ID or Name? [http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=3125&highlight=]

14 - When using text, can the Leader tool point to the MIDDLE of the top or bottom line? [http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=8277&highlight=]

Thanks for whatever answers you can supply!

Not to be mean, but if you have a Beta Version, why should we do your work for you? You can just look for yourself.

... and anyway, we are not allowed to discuss features of AC10 unless they have been announced by GS .... perhaps you should ask these questions in the Beta forums?
cheers,

It's about a month later and I finally have the chance to sit down with AC10, but only because I forced my company to put me in an office far away from the design department, and I've stopped answering my phone. So here are my answers:

1 - Can it do details of details?
No, but the autotext feature might make faking it easier.

2 - Can a default color be assigned to layers?
No.

3 - Does dimension text have a background mask like regular text does?
No.

4 - Does the layout portion still use absolute paths to find external linked documents? It other words, if I link a Word document, can it look in my project's folder first, or does it always look for "Q:\ArchiCAD 9\......."?
Fixed! Oh, the joy! Relative paths rule!

5 - Does the Distance portion of the section marker still use some mysterious algorithm to select pens for the contours and fills? [http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=170&highlight=]
Yes. The mysterious algorithm is still in effect.

6 - Is the Witness Line Offset specified in points, or is it still in inches?
Still in inches, and still must be set by hand for every scale.
EDIT: Actually, it can, but you have to set a switch in the Preferences.

7 - Does the Edit Selection Set dialog have more properties than just layer and pen? I'm specifically looking for Linetype, Material, Fill Pen, etc..
No. Still layer and color only.

8 - Is there an auditing function that can check the database for possible problems, and fix them? [http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=9287&highlight=]
No.

9 - When you use a Reference Level, do the elevation dims still have that stupid text appended to the measurement? i.e. "(First Reference Level)" [http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=7364&highlight=]
Yes and No, but mostly yes. It still automatically appends, but the first level text is now "(Sea Level)".
EDIT: A cheesy way around this is to place the dimensions with the reference set to Project Zero, then switch them to 1st Reference Level when you're done -- it doesn't add the goofy text.

10 - Do elevation dimensions have a parameter for typing in the dimension target, such as "T.O.F.F."? [http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=7361&highlight=]
No.

11 - Is the dimension text on elevation dimensions placed any better? [http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=7363&highlight=]
Still a large gap.

12 - Does AC10 utilize double-clicking? [http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=2626&highlight=]
Only on existing text.

13 - Can you sort the stuff in the Project Map by Reference ID or Name? [http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=3125&highlight=]
No.

14 - When using text, can the Leader tool point to the MIDDLE of the top or bottom line? [http://archicad-talk.graphisoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=8277&highlight=]
No!

I thought three of these (3, 6, & 9) would probably be fixed because they don't seem like that much work from a programming perspective. If we were lucky, I thought we might see four or five of them fixed.

Hopefully, these easy ones -- specifically 3, 6, and 9 -- will be solved by the next update. What do you say, Graphisoft?

Jay, if it's any consolation i pushed very hard for item #6 during beta testing and it actually has been fixed - it just isn't obvious (or in the documentation!)

Go to Options->Project Preferences->Dimensions and you will see a new option called Witness Line Scalability. If you set this to "Fixed" (the new option) it causes the witness line value to be in points instead of imperial/metric. This behaves just like text where the point size is the same regardless of text.

Thanks for pointing this out
