Hi All,

I want to know. If I have the ability to do great architectural drawings with archicad,,,,,can it be a benefit to me if I apply at an architectural firm?

Do people(architects) know about archicad?

Thanks...

A single-skilled person is useless in an architectural firm.

To be good in Archicad means that you know how to put buildings together because this type of application derives its advantage from coordinating all aspects of architectural design and documentation.

If you are at the beginning of your career, the software you use is irrelevant since it will be years before you truly master your software/design development/documentation coordination. We get students in here all the time who claim to have software skills. Let them try and do something real. Ha!

As for creating artwork in Archicad. Forget it! If you have interest to be an architectural illustrator, you'll need to focus on top-end illustration products, not modeling/documentation products like Archicad with compromised rendering capacity. For example:

Maxon's Cinema 4D
AutoDesk's 3ds Max

If you have a solid portfolio and diverse and rich background in construction and design you typically would have one foot in the door maybe two. The hardest part about being young is people don't think you know what you are doing and don't trust that you have enough experience to make such a fundamental connection to a BIM platform such as Archicad, when 80% of the industry in still in 1999. The other part you have to deal with is investing in your own commercial grade software and hardware such that you can bring your own platform. In most cases I find that is all I can do. Be a hardliner and say this is what I use will you please understand I can integrate.

The last ten years would have made today different if there was more openess to multi platform offices.

Never limit yourself to the stated platform requirments if you are more comfortable with another platform, especially Archicad and C4D.

I think GS has changed their web site since June ... the South Africa resellers are listed here now:
http://www.graphisoft.com/purchase/africa_middle_east/south_africa.html

Of the two, APIX at least has 13 on their home page. 😉

Like I have nothing better to do than make up fake links for moribund topics? I'm sure that our colleague found what he needed in June.

Web links provide an uncertain foundation for settling a matter of fact. A number of the links on the GS site appear to be broken, perhaps still not re-established after some site changes, and the south_africa.html appears to be one. I assume they'll be fixed.
