Are you a modeling whiz??

How do you go about doing this? I've gotten everything to align well, but when I try and run the angled trim at the face of the dormer down it "effs" everything up.

I'm trying very hard to "model more, draw less" but sometimes it's frustrating!

is there any consistancy to the profiler?

ArchiCAD 25 7000 USA - Windows 10 Pro 64x - Dell 7720 64 GB 2400MHz ECC - Xeon E3 1535M v6 4.20GHz - (2) 1TB M.2 PCIe Class 50 SSD's - 17.3" UHD IPS (3840x2160) - Nvidia Quadro P5000 16GB GDDR5 - Maxwell Studio/Render 5.2.1.49- Multilight 2 - Adobe Acrobat Pro - ArchiCAD 6 -25

This is the spline on top of the curves. If they do not match perfectly I could not tell at any zoom level. And like I said. I made the spline with the magic wand clicking on the arcs. They are as close to the same as you can get.
Apparently the computer can tell the difference.

Even if you can work it out and get it modeled the profiler can still make it look bad. This is the curve fill and the spline fill placed side by side in the profiler to make one part. Notice how different the curves are. And neither one is smooth enough for me.

This is why I said good luck with it.

I think it is too hard to control and the results are unacceptable.

Perhaps this is just operator error.

Maybe operator eror.... I have no problem creating a nice clean curved fill.
That looks great. Perhaps it's even my graphics card settings ??

It seems to be only Custom Profiles I am making that are not smooth enough.

I just wish I knew that the optimum settings are.

Steven, is that profile larger than normal, or are you using 'linear segments' in the magic wand settings?

If you make a normal sized molding and use 'Best Match', you will see the way that all curves are reduced to straight segments automatically as Steve's image shows. It's only noticeable on smaller profiles.

If you use the 'linear Segments' setting in the magic wand, the profile will be closer to original curve but you will get lots of extra lines in elevs/sections and the 3d window. (See the top two profiles in my image.)

To be honest, I don't know what the answer is. You don't really notice the segments in smaller scale sections (i.e. 1:50) which is generally what you physically model to, but if you need to see the profile in a detail at a larger scale (i.e. 1:5) then you would have to redraw the curves to be smooth. You could even copy and paste the linework from the profile manager to ensure consistency.

Perhaps GS could introduce some sort of scale sensitivity to complex profiles so you wouldn't need to redraw curved objects.

YES!!!

Do you want to start the wish topic?
