Same as your experience, I can not remove a fill outline.
Even creating a duplicate and removing the outline = no go.
In what version of AC have you successfully removed the fill outline?
If it is pen #1 you find offensive... Replace outline with the
DOT line, or create an even less dense dotted line and then
create a 01mm pen in white or something along those lines.
