Does anyone know if, in AC, one can create a text label that describes the bearing of a line and that will automatically change as the bearing of the line changes?

I think the good Daniel Lindahl wrote a library part that does what you want. I'm sure you can buy it for a couple of bucks at objectsonline.com

Search for 'survey line' or something similar.
