Confused about hovering over hotspots and setting user origin

um, so. some pref has changed and i can't for the life of me find it. i used to be able to move the curser over an intersection of two walls, wait for the input constraint of a little blue circle with an "x" in the middle to appear, type x or y enter a dimension and the curser would move to that coordinate. the circle appears, but no little "x".  i feel like an idiot because 1. i can't figure out how to turn this feature back on 2. i don't know what to call it to do a search on my own.

ok, i have discovered that the little blue x is the user origin, yipee. however, there are three ways to invoke it. it does not appear as i said by hovering at the node, which it is supposed to, i can invoke it with opt > shift but when i try to input a range i just get wee beeps from my machine. i have " enable direct numeric input" checked in the tracker options.

The blue circle is a snap guide.

There is a button to turn them on/off and it should be in a menu somewhere as well.

I can't show you as I don't have Archicad in front of me at the moment.

But from the help file ... https://help.graphisoft.com/AC/28/INT/index.htm?rhcsh=1&rhnewwnd=0&rhmapid=#t=_AC28_Help%2F030_Inter...
