AFAIK AC11 does not support AutoCAD 2008 files. Try to get them into 2007 format and see if that works. It may be that r14 is too old. (Almost ten years now isn't it?)

Thanks for responding quickly. I saved the Autocad file as a ACAD '04 file and inserted it as an xref with the same result, an immediate crash.

It's hard to say...
Maybe some entities aren't translating successfully. Try placing it as a drawing (rather than xREF), opening it in a separate session of ArchiCAD, saving as DWF, or try different translator settings.

I tried ver '04 ACAC inserting as a drawing also resulted in crash. I changed translator (once). Also resulted in a crash.

Does the file have xREFs? If so try binding them. (I am assuming you have access to a copy of AutoCAD.)
