Custom Roof

How does one get the custom button here to light up in order to use it?

You get custom angles by clicking edges and using the pet palette. The settings dialog only shows if this has been done and allows you to reset all edges to vertical or perpendicular.

Right idea, wrong palette. You have to do click on the edge instead of the corner point

Right idea, right view, wrong pet palette option.

Try the 'Set Roof Edge Angle...' at the top right. Get that option by selecting the roof and clicking with the mercedes cursor on the top edge of the overhang of the roof.
