To cut a hole out of a slab or other polygon element is easy. Select the slab and click on the edge or on a node. This will bring up the pet pallete. On the pet pallete click the last button to swich pallets. You should see + and - buttons. Select the - button and draw the hole. I dont have AC with me at home right now but this should be close. Write back if you need more help.

you can cut holes in slabs (or any other polygon elements) quite simply by selecting them and with their respective tool active in the tool palette just draw in your hole - no need for the pet palette in this instance.

flamer's suggestion to use the pet palette is valid when the elements tool isn't the active one in the tool palette, or when you need to perform more complicated editing. . .
