Find object on layout

I am working on a project on which someone has placed a non-company-approved object on a couple of layouts. The problem is, I don't know which layouts; and there are 983 layouts in this particular file (it's a big project).

Question: is there a way to find which layouts this particular object is placed on, wihtout having to go through them one by one?

I'm not sure if by "layout" you mean a view or a sheet?
If you know the name of the object try going into 3d, turn all layers ON and FIND AND SELECT the object by name. Then press F5 (or F4 ... depends on your short-cuts) to isolate it in 3D.

Or you can make a schedule that lists objects by chosen criteria (ie. name) and using buttons on top left corner you can select it in plan or 3d.

If the objects are placed on a layout page then unfortunately you will have to go through them one by one.
A good reason not to do any annotation in the layouts - although you would still have to open each section/elevation/detail if it was placed in there.

The trick of selecting vi a schedule will only work for objects placed in the plan - they won't schedule anything in sections, elevations, layout pages, etc.

Looking through the print outs of the layouts may be faster than opening each layout.

I think it is possible to hide master layout items and possible to simplify or hide placed views, that would eliminate seeing all but the placed objects. Might help with spotting them.

Are the 983 layouts in one big folder or subfolders?

You could try splitting the project into subfolder files (one project for each layoutbook folder). Delete the object from the project and see which one gives a library loading error. Might be a bit faster process of elimination that way.
