Goodies on the web

If you are using goodie tools, you should also click to the goodies page to get the the updated versions.
Kindly refresh my memory, please, on the advantage of this downloading method.

Will we need to update all the goodies every time a patch is released? Are any of the add-ons themselves actually updated?

Couldn't the installer place them in the AC folder and have them online, in case they're updated between patches? Which is unlikely anyway, right?

And now we're being warned about a 'modified' ArchiCAD folder. So we should dig through the add-ons for goodies, take them out, run the patch, download them over again, and put them back. Isn't this the sort of thing installers are supposed to do?

There has to be a better way.

It was explained to me why these are goodies and I will try to explain...

The Goodies are items that are simply add-ons to Archicad that have been produced as tools for individual locations such as the US Market (ex. Grid Tool). These are not fully documented or 100% complete. Graphisoft will continue to develop some of them based on the need. Some of them they will simply discontinue development. As a "goodie" this keeps the items out of the core Archicad application for future upgrades.

Also since they are downloadable, Graphisoft can update them more regularly if needed than updating the application.

I hope this is helpful. Some of the goodies work very good for some of our users and some are problematic. I hope that you guys find them helpful as well.

Um... Angi, I think he's clear on the concept but he's wondering why the maintenance/delivery/update aspect of goodies is so..... ah, what's the word? Oh yeah: retarded.

We need a new goody for Mactel, a new goody for PPC, one for build 814 another for 996. These damm goodies are about as delicate as wine glasses. I join James in intoning a great big SHEESH

My mistake. The Hotfix WILL update goodies that you have already installed in the ArchiCAD folder. So, you do NOT have to download goodies again.

Thank you for the clarification. Will the warning about an unmodified AC folder be changed?

I guess Scott's problem is related to the CadImage issue, rather than a general problem with add-ons.

no. i think the add-on installer issue is just a coincidence. cadimage's problem is a little bigger than having two add-ons with the same name i fear . . .
