License Delivery maintenance is expected to occur on Saturday, November 30, between 8 AM and 11 AM CET. This may cause a short 3-hours outage in which license-related tasks: license key upload, download, update, SSA validation, access to the license pool and Graphisoft ID authentication may not function properly. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Graphisoft's most obfuscatory press release?

After scratching my head, I could only laugh. http://www.graphisoft.com/company/press_zone/tno_in_ac.html

Can anyone translate this into something understandable?

OK Matthew. please explain:

Schema’s, Ontologies, Object Libraries, BIM like
• IFC2x3Final
• SWOP PMO
• COINS BIM (C-BIM)
• ISO DIS 12006-3
• IFD, BARBi, LexiCon, CROW-OB, ETIM
• STEP Aps, STEPlib
• VISI Berichten
• DigitaleHuis/DigitaleDakkapel model
AC4.1-AC26SWE; MacOS13.5.1; MP5,1+MBP16,1

Schema’s, Ontologies, Object Libraries, BIM like
• IFC2x3Final

-Final version of IFC 2x3 (do I have to explain IFC? Hope not.)

• SWOP PMO
• COINS BIM (C-BIM)
• ISO DIS 12006-3
• IFD, BARBi, LexiCon, CROW-OB, ETIM
• STEP Aps, STEPlib

STEP is quite popular in Steel detailers land. I use Steel models from Steel detailers all the time. Right now I convert them to IFC, but I would appreciate direct support of STEP files.

• VISI Berichten
• DigitaleHuis/DigitaleDakkapel model

I don't know the rest but it looks like a big plan to finally establish proper interoperability in our industry. Support of DWG is not enough today. In residential architecture it is not obvious but when you are building a hospital it is a big deal.

Miki seems to have covered the basics. I really can't say any more.

OK Sorry I wasn't clear - the absurd roundup of abbreviations from their PowerPoint "presentation" wasn't the point, really

What I want you to explain is what you think it is:

Assuming it is actually my face and that I am not just a computer simulation.

Want to understand what Ontology/Taxonomy/Classification is?
http://www.ontopia.net/topicmaps/materials/tm-vs-thesauri.html
It might actually be very useful to describe building information in a structured way, not depending on certain implementations.
It's about structured information and it is very valid in the building sector. IFC might be a part inside this, but this goes much further: searching through information, structuring building information.

Don't see it as an "ArchiCAD feature" though...

Read this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semantic_Web
Semantic Web = structured information, adhering to classification systems. The text gives this nice example:

Non-semantic web (web 1.0 and 2.0):
<item>cat</item>

Semantic web (web 3.0):
<animal Kingdom="Animalia" Phylum="Chordata" Class="Mammalia" Order="Carnivora" Family="Felidae" Genus="Felis">Cat</animal>
IFC2x3Final
You might know what IFC is.

ISO DIS 12006-3
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_12006
ISO 12006 "Building construction" is an international standard for organizing information about construction works.
IFD, BARBi, LexiCon, CROW-OB, ETIM
IFD = Industrial, Flexible and Deconstructable Building.
http://www.ifd.nl
Industrial building = prefabricated, serial production, short building time
Flexible = design freedom, permanent or temporary, movable, adaptable
Deconstructable = reusable, not demolishing, but rather disassembling
This is a research platform, combining academic research and industry partners.
STEP Aps, STEPlib
STEP = standard for exchange of product model data, from which IFC originates (and uses concepts, such as EXPRESS modeling language).
VISI Berichten
DigitaleHuis/DigitaleDakkapel model
DigitaleHuis = digital home
DigitaleDakkapel = digital dormer

http://www.digitaledakkapel.com/DDD_Introductie.aspx
= system for online building permits for dormers in Netherlands (can be useful for home-owners

A few minutes searching can get you pretty far. Understanding Dutch might help as well. And working in Academics sometimes has its advantages.
