Correct assumption - why fix bad design with a parody?
That drop-a-letter compression is also an homage to Object/Element dialog boxes that by default are too small to contain their text contents and you make an entire book with the too-small dialog boxes in it and feel like a total fool once Eric Bobrow diplomatically shows you how to close the folder window AND THEN stretch the dialog without using the phrase "you moron." Sort of like my brother-in-law at his farm when I showed him how to use a razor knife to cut styrofoam insulation instead of a handsaw like he had been doing for 1200 sq ft worth. Little bits of white stuck all over him from friction static. Duh. Hahahaha. I never said it, either.
