Question: So, you want to open/import an IFC file into Archicad so that the IFC elements are converted to Archicad elements and you can continue working on them?

If so, this usually does not work out because not too many IFC element types can be converted to the native element types of the various BIM software. This is due to the large variance in geometric/modeling capabilities and data structures of the various BIM applications.

This is why the recommended workflow is to use the IFC file ONLY AS A REFERENCE MODEL, based on which you can create your model in Archicad.

For that purpose, the best workflow is to place the IFC as a Hotlinked Module in the Archicad file.
