Does anyone know when we will be getting a Universal Mac version of AC 9 or 10??

Matt, I had held out for a long while. Iwas using a 667 mHz powerbook and a dp 450 mhz power mac. The macbook pro is quite a bit faster-in some areas it clearly rivals a G5.
Sounds good. I look forward to ordering a nice, shiny, new 17" as soon as they are announced. (in May?)

Well, it's May 2006. Graphisoft has had literally years of lead time from Apple to move the project to Xcode, and had a long head start with intel-based Macs.

Where's the Universal Binary? What's the status? In January we were told Graphisoft was 'close to finishing'. Why did intel Macs have to hit the marketplace before Graphisoft even acknowledged any work was being done towards a Universal Binary?

I am beginning to strongly suspect no Universal Binary of ArchiCAD 9 will surface. And given the reports of ArchiCAD 10, that definitely endangers ArchiCAD's place within our practice.

Thought I'd ask Graphisoft UK, & their response is:

The Mactel version will be supported but we are still awaiting dates of the release of the product on this platform (Version 9 will not support the new Mactel hardware). This is likely to follow the released version of Archicad 10 some time in the summer.

Two things, Thing A: wow, Graphisoft will actually update AC 9 to universal binary. Thing II: I have been running AC 9 on Mactel for a little over a month. Sure I fuss about the issue of crashes on a product that really never seems to crash. I'm taking my lumps and anxiously awaiting my AC10 upgrade order to ship. The experience has certainly taught me the imperative of frequent saves. So, after all is said and done, my angst has diminished. I installed Boot Camp and windows version of AC9 - Works well but for a dyed in the wool Mac fan, I don't even like the windows version of AC. javascript:emoticon(':P')

You should read through the Apple Developer documentation. Universal binaries and even the Intel-macs are not that old...

And it's one thing to port a small Cocoa application that was developed in XCode in the first place, but it's a complete other thing to port a humonguous carbonized CAD application with roots in the old Mac OS from Codewarrior over to XCode. They will do it (they have to) but it'll take time. Don't wait for AC9 to be ported. This has no commercial backing from users. AC10 will have to be ported, but not with the first release.

Even Photoshop, a long time Mac-favorite, is not ported yet. Cinema4D is 😉
A pity I don't have a Macbook, though

As you may recall, last year Apple said the Macintels would come by June this year. I think Graphisoft had wanted it to be ready, but then Apple went ahead with the hardware six months early. Read what Adobe and Microsoft has to say about moving a program this large, and about the status of the current development tools! Why move to Xcode when it was an inferior development tool for large apps? But that's history now.

A Macintel version of Archicad 10 is definitely coming. Wether it's a Universal Binary or a separate release remains to be seen, my money's on the latter.

Hi Stefan.

[long rant about Adobe, praise for Maxon, and curiosity about GS's inability to migrate the codebase snipped after cool-off period (after reflection - now that the situation is clear - I'm happy to keep this debate off Graphisoft's forum)]

thanks,

No there will not be an AC9/MacIntel version. I understand that AC10 will run native on the Intel Macs (I sure hope so as I am writing this on my new 17" MacBook Pro) and it also seems that it will be far sooner than Adobe or MS get their versions out (again I am hoping this to be true).

I will also be installing XP with Boot Camp (tonight if I can manage). How is it working for you? I share your qualms about the interface but it works for me since my current clients are on Windows now anyway.

As I understand it, there will be no Intel Mac version of AC9, but that AC10 will be available in native form reasonably soon.

On the other hand... I just launched AC9 on my brand new 17" MacBook (arrived today) and it is quite respectable. It seems quite a bit faster than my old 1GHz G4 PowerBook. I haven't run any time trials but the difference is obvious enough. Pretty impressive for running in emulation.

Stability remains to be seen (or not) but I am well pleased. I'll be installing XP anyway and it will be interesting to see how fast AC9 runs that way. This is more fun than I expected.

EDIT: Hey! what happened to Reinhold's post?

Congratulations!

Boot Camp or Parallels? I found this picture of running Windows in Parallels along with something called Virtue Desktop - one click to switch - looks cool!
