and....why in my interior rendering do the walls that are facing the sun show up almost black when all the walls are white ? This is rather difficult to explain to the Client, who has no understanding of all the complexities of CAD, nor does he care.

the fastest way to get the background picture is to "Render Background with Internal Engine" - the PhotoRendering Settings Dialog Checkbox....

In LightWorks, just add a little General light or some window lights to brighten an interior.
These things AREN'T automatic. If a surface in a rendering is dark, put some light on it....
