Line attributes

Is there a way to find out how long a line is after it is drawn? When I draw a line, all the attributes are shown on the toolbar i.e. length, angle, etc. Once I deselect this line, is there a way to reselect it and find out the length without drawing another line on top of it??

Oh Yeah! NO MORE MEASURING!! I have sorely missed this from Vectorworks. Just select and you know all about what you're looking at............

I just found this out and have been looking for this all along. Turn on your element information, in windows>floating palettes>. Set to the information you want displayed. I have mine set for second button in and the rest off.

This should be in the info box straight up but it's not a perfect world. Short suit is it seems to be limited to 1/4" increments..............

Thanks Jeff, but it appears that I can't do this with 6.5 We just got our upgrade to 8.1 today, so hopefully it will be there for us. We miss this in Ashlar Vellum, it is such a simple program to use, if only it was compatible with AutoCad a little more, we would keep using it. This sucker here is a whole other ball of wax and is taking some real time to learn more than just the basic uses of it, but were trying.

Steve - until you get your upgrade installed, the easiest way in 6.5 to tell how long something is would be to set a new user origin at the beginning of the line using shift-option/alt.

Then move your mouse, and the coordinates pallette will show you your relative distance from the origin (x,y,radius, angle)

saves a little time and eliminates the potential for adding millions of extra lines...

with 8.1 (as others have said) use element information. I seem to have a small problem with it, though... The pallette won't immediately update to show the selected information for a new selection. I have to unselect and reselect the box for 'length' or 'area'

I still tend to use the shift/option method most often

Steve,

Keep at it. 8.1 will feel like a big raise once it starts to sink in. If you continue to feel "up against it" call in some help, Link Ellis comes to mind.

You have a big investment there with ArchiCAD, make it pay for itself. I'm not having the same experience as Weston, I am getting an immediate update??

It appears I've got the same issue. It acts as if only the first button is selected. Bug?

Yeah, it's worked for me reliably so far except for the fact that I have different keyboards installed and whenever I use that key combination it switches my keyboard layout. It's been the cause of some frustrating moments... (why are things not working NOW?)
