Mac & ArchiCAD v9 problems

Anonymous
Not applicable
I use both Mac & PC versions of Archicad v9, release 2045

For the Mac on OS X10.2 or 10.4;

Is it correct that the Zoom (Command-')
& Stretch (Command-H) commands were deleted for Macs in version 9.

(Command -H hides ArchiCAD, Command-' does nothing)

And that Drag a Copy (Command -Option-Drag) brings up the Dock when hidden and won't do the Drag a Copy?

Or am I missing something?

If so can you suggest work-arounds?

Josh,

The Mac has pre-set key commands that use several of the same key combinations that we do in Archicad. Just go to the Apple menu/System Preferences/Keyboard & Mouse and change or turn off any conflicting shortcuts that conflict. I turned them all off except for the Expose set.

Cheers,

Wally

Wally, thanks.
That fixed Drag a Copy, which I use all day long.

I did not see a Command-H (Stretch) or a Command-/ (Zoom) in the Keyboard shortcuts to disable.

And any
Under the ArchiCAD menus, Drag a Copy exists, but ArchiCAD v9 does not show me a command for Stretch or for Zoom.

Any help will be appreciated

Josh,

I understand the frustration you've had with drag a copy, same here. I double checked the Mac Preferences, and as you said, no other culprits. So, having little idea of where other key could be commandeered, I suggest you go to Options/Work Environment/Shortcut Schemes/Keyboard Shortcuts. What keys are set there for these commands ?
If you haven't Worked in the Environment you really should! It is one of the more satisfying new features in 9.0. Also, the stretch command is in the Edit Menu, and zoom is found under the Display Menu.

Thanks, getting closer. YES, WE is cool, I will pay attention to this.

I was able to fix the Stretch and assign it to Command-Option-H, could not assign it to Command-H as it was before, as that put me back to the finder with a clear window and I see no way to turn that off in Apple menu/System Preferences/Keyboard & Mouse, but no never mind, it works.

Cannot assign Zoom, as it is a button on the bottom and not in menu list. But that's not too bad, i can just hit that button, a lot better than having to go to a menu and pull it down. (Correct me if I'm wrong, ALWAYS.)

By the way, I have used ArchiCAD lots since v4.55 and have learned that setting commands to the previous version is a short turn solution, we all have to move forward.

And speaking of moving ahead, Thank goodness ArchiCAD now (FINALLY) leaves the newly created object, as in Mirror a Copy, selected. (Now I only have to get used to what I wanted and was used to 15 years ago)

Thanks to all.
PS Ben I did try to search, spent a bunch of time and didn't see it. Thanks again

You musn't have followed Ben's instructions properly, because they are foolproof. There is a way of redefining Cmd+H in the system keyboard shortcuts, but it's a bit of a process that I can't recall without being in front of a mac.

Zoom has been under the Display menu for ever hasn't it? Regardless you can sort the commands alphabetically in the WE dialog, which I tend to do, simply because (with the help of pressing the necessary keyboard key) it is much quicker to get to the command you want.

Indeed!

Cheers,

get yourself a three button scroll-wheel mouse: the scroll wheel zooms and clicking the scroll wheel pans: there's no need to assign keyboard shortcuts to any zoom/pan command again . . . (by the way - you can assign 'zoom in' or 'zoom out' a shortcut - just not 'dynamic zoom')
By the way, I have used ArchiCAD lots since v4.55 and have learned that setting commands to the previous version is a short turn solution, we all have to move forward.
you can't turn off Cmd+H in the system - but you can set archiCAD's shortcuts to version 8.1: the next time you launch archiCAD IT will take the Cmd+H shortcut away from the system.

the next thing you do is reapply the archiCAD 9 shortcuts and modify the stretch command to be 'Cmd + H'. the principle is that archiCAD owns the shortcut and so can then use it when defining new shortcut within the AC9 shortcuts scheme. you're not 'moving backwards' - you're tricking the system so that you can move forward without loosing those really important shortcuts that you're used to . . .

but you know, of course, that stretch can be activated out of the pet palette . . ?

All problems fixed as per Archiben's instructions. You're a peach. Thanks to all.

I have other bones to pick with v9. I'll be back for your help or a shoulder to cry on.
