Measuring distances on site plan

Anonymous
Not applicable
(Newbie stuff for sure).

I'd like to be able to measure simple linear distances from any arbitrary point on a site plan to another arbitrary point. The plan I'm working with is about 1000' x 250' so not much fits on the screen.

I know how to reset the user origin point to one end of the line but when I do so and try to measure in any arbitarary direction, the distance shown in the Co-ordinate box bears no resemblance to reality.

What do I have to do to get the simple equivalent of a tape measure in AC 8.1, ie. scalar measurement not vector measurement.

Thanks
Alan

once you have placed a temporary origin, the distance is delta r in the coordinate box.

perhaps you need to drop a hotspot if you are floating in space......

to be absolutely certain, draw a line.

ArchiRuler has this function.

I forgot to say: that if you need to establish relative distances, you should always be working in relative coordinates - make sure the deltas are active in the coordinate box. You are probably using absolutes. See the manual.....
