I'm trying to navigate in 3D and trying to simulate lifting/lowering of the camera using shortcuts.

As I do all my work on a Mac laptop, perhaps I am missing something here by not having a mouse and full keyboard. However, assuming you are using the explore mode, the default shortcuts are:
"space bar" to raise the camera
"C" to lower the camera
"space bar" to raise the camera
"C" to lower the camera

In your work environment, click on the "Keyboard Shortcuts". From there you can view in html (show shortcut list in browser)and then print the default shortcut keys. This can be very helpful to both learn the default ones as well as to develop your own.

Good point Erika. I am using a very heavily modified work environment and can no longer remember is I changed these shortcuts or not.
