Need help on selecting things in Archicad

Hello all! I am a 9th grade Freshman taking Architectural Drafting in my school. While I was doing a project one day, I couldn't select things on my floor plan except by a reference point, although I've been able to select things by clicking on them anywhere. I was wondering if you guys know how to change this and would be super happy if you could help.

Welcome to the forum.

There is an option called 'Quick Selection'.
It can be turned on or off in the selection tool settings or you can use the SPACE bar to toggle it on or off (depending if it is switched on or off in the settings - the space bar will toggle the opposite state).

I prefer to leave it turned off in the settings and press SPACE bar if I need to select a surface.

It can still be used in conjunction with the TAB key for when there are multiple elements to select.
