I can't imagine that there would be though.
Groups can be automatically created if you model continuous walls, but model exactly the same walls as single wall and there will be no group unless the user creates one.
So it will take a lot of user control to ensure you have the correct groups all of the time if you are trying to count them.

I think it should be something included by default.
The same way we count polygons from an object quality standpoint, there are other subjects to be covered in terms of performance: number of groups, number of SEO, ....
I hope there is more awareness about these matters and soon we have some development for end-users.

Group counting would be weird, given that you can have groups within groups. Not that you can access anything other than the top and bottom... Then there is the chain build option as mentioned by Barry.
Counting SEOs on the other hand is a whole different thing and really should be integrated.
