OLE work around for the MAC

Anonymous

I need a work around to the OLE process in a Mac platform. My project notes are all created and typically edited in MS Word. However, the OLE is not an option for the Mac Version of AC9 - short of bringing all the text into AC is there a way to simulate the OLE process - such as through virtual PC...?

krause.

Have you tried selecting all in Word and pasting into AC? It works pretty well, IMO; tabs and formatting preserved. Use a detail window and save it as a view.

Heres a "sort-of" work around. Save the document as a PDF. Open the PDF in PhotoShop (or PS elements) and save as a tif. Import the tif to plotmaker (or merge into archicad?). Sorry... not updateable.

As I've said before, I think the answer is not OLE but direct importing of PDF. Until then, use the excellent GraphicConverter. My feeling is that the correct place to arrange and manage these text files is PM, not AC.

You can do this with out third party software. "Print" the word document at 200or more% in page setup and in the print dialogue choose preview. Save as Jpeg. Place into Plotmaker. Only does one page at a time though. Up the resolution in Plotmaker to make the text sharper and back to original size.

True, but only one page at a time is a pretty sizable drawback and GraphicConverter has the yummy "watched folders" feature meaning once this is set up you don't ever have to look at GraphicConverter again. Just print the Word file to PDF and do an update in PM. Revision done.

My guess is that between folder actions, Automator and certainly AppleScript you could do it all for free and without 3rd party software, but GraphicsConverter is only US$30 and has a gazillion other uses.

But let's not loose sight of the big picture: We need direct PDF importing in AC/PM.

I am not familiar with Graphic Converter. From what you are saying, it must be an add on product? Where can I find it to purchase it?

The big question still revolves around automatic updates... Coming from AC7 we had all this information formatted in MS Word/ MS Excel. The project managers for the project - who are not AC savy - could work on these documents, save them, and they automatically updated in PM.

Does Graphic Converter provide similar functionality via PDF's - meaning that if Graphic Converter was used to place PDF's in PM, then if the project manager modifies the MS document and prints it to PDF - replacing the original document - will it now automatically update in PM?
