Raised roof feature

Anonymous
Not applicable
Hi All,

I have searched for an answer for my question everywhere but I have not been able to find an answer or a proper way of achieving what I need. Basically in Australia we get a lot of clients requesting a raised roof feature over the veranda area that is higher than the main roof. This seems to be a thing that everyone likes but I have never found a proper way of achieving the roof forms shown in the examples that I have attached. Does anyone have an idea of how to go about replicating what is shown on the images?

Thank you in advance

Two separate roofs at different levels and 'connect' them.

Actually I find it easier to do with single roof planes as you have more control of how they overlap each other and how they display on plan.

You can get close with 2 Multi-plane roofs but I find I split them into single planes and do some final manipulating.
You may actually be happy with the 2 multi-plane roofs as they are - it all depends how they overlap.

yeah this is easy as pie mate.

Just draw it as if the roof was 1 level then select it and right click > split roof. Select the 3 planes and raise them to what they need to be.

If you don't know the 'Ctrl+click' snap trick. The best way to explain is by going into the 3D and where you see the new gap, select one of the raised roof planes and Ctrl+click the edge of the roof you want to connect it to (you'll see a scissor icon). It will adjust itself to the correct offset. Then just do the same thing again by selecting the lower roof and Ctrl+click on the edge of the raised roof, it will connect in the right location. You can do this in 2D by offsetting the edges from each other and doing the process above.
