Is it possible to remove the Zone Reference Point?

Only if you change the construction method (i.e. placement method) to "Manual".
But then you will have to manually resize your zone if needed - update zones command will have no effect.

The Zone Reference Point is handy for updating the size or even moving them to other rooms. And they don't publish.

If it's bothering you, you could use the pet palette to drag it onto the text, which will sort of hide it?
