Here is a perspective to give you an idea. My problem is, on the roof plan, I want it to show correctly, with the eaves hidden by the upper roof, but the ridge running onto the upper roof. If I change the display order, the entire roof will display above the other.

I was able to get this result by using 2 Multi-plane Roofs, and using the Connect command to Trim the lower roof with the higher roof.

The upper roof is a complete gable roof, with no cutout where the lower roof comes in?

1. A. Select side roof as Target
B. Select main roof as Operator
C. SEO operation: Subtraction
2. A. Select side roof
B. Connect (from context menu)
C. Select main roof
D. Select part of side roof to keep
I have found that experimenting with two operations can achieve results not possible with one.

Very interesting, thank you. I've used SEO's a lot but I'm unfamiliar with the other options in the connect menu. Which did you use for the second step? {when you say "connect (from context menu)"}?

I think this easier to do in the 3D Window. Select the roof, then right-click to bring up the contextual menu, and select Connect > Trim Elements to Roof/Shell. This is a new way of working so you should take a look at the Help files, such as: Virtual Building > Construction Elements > Trim Elements to Roof or Shell > Trim Particular Elements: Manual Trim.
