Roof ridge join problem

When I create a polyroof over a set of walls the ridge lines don't actually join along the main ridge and two hips, effectively dividing the roof in half with about a 0.05mm gap! This is normally un-noticed in plans and elevations and is near impossible to measure but when I edit the roof to make a Dutch gable and trim a wall object to the roof for the gable infill using SEO, there is a narrow strip of wall poking up through the gap! I have to then zoom right in and shift the nodes of the roof so they meet and it is fixed.

Am I doing something wrong in creating the roof or is this a bug?

All construction grids etc are square and all walls have been placed square, then the roof is placed over the walls using the Magic Wand, SO WHERE IS THE "OUT OF SQUARE-NESS" COMING FROM??

Hi Ben,

I always use the vertical edges on my roofs and I usually use the Magic Wand.

When making a roof, I have a ceiling storey and I create a slab by tracing the outline of the exterior walls below ghosted, to get the roof shape needed, then stretch it to add porches, verandahs as necessary. This then becomes my ceiling and is good for sections, interiors etc. (I love the section tool!) With the PolyRoof I can then just click this ceiling slab with the Magic Wand and I have a roof completed for me! Thats one reason I forked out nearly 10k for this thing! I love it. I can then edit the roof as I need to for gables etc, but the hard work is done in a blink! Onlookers love it! I'm sure this roof creation idea is nothing new to the "oldies" on this site and software... (they might have something better?)

What I am having trouble comprehending/accepting is how the program can do all this but then not quite join the corners of the roof planes! So near and yet so far...

I wondered if it was the .5º in my roof pitch of 22.5 but any pitch seems to do it and it also does it if I manually trace the walls below, instead of MagicWanding. The way the "cracks" appear seems to suggest to me that, if the roof is right, then the walls I'm tracing are out of square, a bit "diamonded", stretched minutely diagonally but this is not the case!

I'm baffled why and disappointed but will charge on relentless and join the club (I hear them calling! ). There has to be a cloud for every silver lining!

In my experience, the only thing that causes roofs to have a small gaps like you have illustrated, is if the roof has inadvertently been moved slightly or the roof pitch has been changed. You could lock your roof layer in all of your views to help prevent this. Check to see if your spring point line is still exactly on the outside of your wall (or wherever you chose to place it).

This is a known bug with roofs created with the polyroof method. It was recently discussed (in part) here:

Mike - when I use the Polyroof, the gaps appear instantly when the roof is created. After using the Ctrl-Click trick to join them, any "global" or "single roof plane" pitch change does not affect the joins (2d plan positions of nodes)!

Link - Thanks for the link . I actually found that when it was first posted, while searching for answers and didn't quite understand what Steve and others were meaning. Was good to go and read thru now after this! I figured there had to be something wrong! I hope they can fix it.

Yup, see what you're seeing now: definitely a bug with the polyroof (auto hip) method.
