Select & edit element (AC10) where adjoining element exi

I love 10 so far, but I'm getting stuck on basic stuff.

When I select an element and then try to grab a node or edge for editing, adjacent elements get selected instead.

Using the tool of the selected element versus the arrow makes no difference. I also tried the spacebar. There must be a setting somewhere or new technique for this. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

the snap grid might've been off in your case, but it is worth noting that selection behaviour does differ depending on the various combinations of preselection/selection highlight you are choosing to work with. diabolical.

I think I have finally got this tracker/selection thing working. For example 3 stacking slabs and you want to extend the edge of one slab. I prefer to turn off the magnet and activate it with the spacebar.
Hover over the edge with the arrow pointer that you want to extend, the highlighted element appears in the tracker. Tab until you come to the element you wnat. Click the mouse and the tracker will tell you that you have selected the element. Click again with the mercedes and the pet palette appears. You can also do the same at a node.
