One solution is to move the target object a predetermined distance away, edit it there, then move back to original location.
Additional suggestions: turn off T&R, use layer combinations to work with fewer items on screen, zoom down to a gnat's patoot...
All a waste of time and mouse clicks to be sure.

Perhaps what you are trying to do is:
1. Click to select object (with magnet on) using Arrow tool.
2. Click on node to start a pet palette edit. <- but AC selects the other object instead.
In this scenario, where several of the same types of objects are placed together, after selecting the first object, enter edit mode for that object either activating its tool or right clicking and choosing "select and activate tool". This way you will avoid your selection problem.
Hope that helps.

I am working in Achicad 10 and when I select an object then try to select its node to alter it, for some reason rather than grabbing the node, it selects another object that is touching that node and won't let me alter the original object without having to attempt it several times.
I have come across this in the past.
Archicad thinks you simply want to select something and the other object is what it wants to select first rather than edit what you already have selected.
Try activating the tool of the element you want to edit.
i.e. the wall tool if it is a wall you want to edit.
Use SHIFT button (SHIFT/TAB if necessary) to select the wall and then you should have no trouble editing it.

BUT:
Isn't it buggy for AC to assume that the users' selection is NOT to be acted upon?

One workaround is to select the object and right click on empty space this avoids the release and selection of the other object.
