Sluggishness & Selection Problems

I have a couple of files that are acting strange.

In sections and elevations only, they occasionally crawl to a snail's pace while doing any action, and, mo0st frustrating, the cursor on the screen won't line up with the items on the screen I'm trying to select.

E.g.: I will hover over a corner of a wall, piece of text, whatever, and something above it (meaning toward the top of the screen) is highlighted (or selected when I click).

I have to do a save or close the window and reopen to get it to "realign" the screen.

I've had this problem on three computers, all different hardware, including my dual core 2GHz Mac w/ 2.5 gig memory. Other drawings don't do this at all on any of the machines.

Has anyone else had these problems?

Thanks for the help.

Has this anything to do with snapping to the grid?
"S" is the default shortcut on the keyboard so it is easy to accidentaly switch it on.

I have also had periodic selection issues which seem most pronounced in section elevation windows. I think this must be some type of bug. Elements you see on your screen are actually in a slightly different location than where they appear to be. A corner node might actually sit 20 or more pixels down from where it appears on the screen. My sense is that this offset is vertical such that the actual element sits below where it appears to be on the screen. I can hover my curser over empty space on the screen and find a snap point. Closing out of the section elevation window often corrects this issue.

One other issue that might be related is selection in the 3D window. This apparent bug seems to appear most often when you are viewing elements that are within a marquee area. Selection with the magnet option will at times select something completely different than what you are hovering over and the element you want to select can at times be very difficult to select and I resort to selecting it by nodes. Once again closing the 3D window (changing the marquee slightly?) and reopening the 3D window seems to correct the disparity. Initially I had thought this was a graphics card issue, but I currently think it is some type of bug.

These periodic types of bugs are very difficult to nail down since their reproducibility can be difficult. It just happens at times. The more of us that indicate that we have had similar behavior will hopefully mean something.

Thanks for the replies. It's nice to know I'm not losing my mind. Well, at least not this part of it.

I know what you are saying about the snap-to-grid problem. I've done that inadvertently before. This is different, though, and I have checked for the snap setting when it happens.

Thanks for the reminder!

This could be a Mac issue. I rarely work on a PC, but do not recall having the issue there.

Myself and several people in our office have experienced the same behavior. We are a mixed office of PPC macs and intel macs. Some have found just saving the file brings the selection back, although today that did not work, but a send and receive did.

Mike,

I don't think the selection offset issue is just on Mac. Our office is all PC and we have the problem from time to time on most machines. Sometimes closing the window or file fixes the problem but more recently we are finding sections that continue to exhibit the symptom despite repeated re-opening of the file and sign-ins of teamwork.

Anyone got any more ideas?
