Graphisoft Partner
This is a quick survey to see what ArchiCAD users around the world set their screen resolutions to when using ArchiCAD. Please take a moment to respond.

To find the screen resolution of your PC: Right click on your desktop and select Properties. Then go to the Settings tab and read the number under Screen resolution.

To find the screen resolution of your Mac: Go to Apple Menu>System Preferences...>Displays and read the highlighted screen resolution.

If you use a resolution that is not listed, please feel free to specify it in a post. If you use multiple monitors, please feel free to add those too.

Thanks for your time!

Cheers,

2 Dell 20" at 1600x1200. One is straight on and the other is to my left at an angle. It would be nice to have little bigger screens.

Thought I'd just pipe in for the near 30% of people using 1280x1024 resolution, (assuming they're all single screen users).

Having never used dual (or more) screens, or indeed anything larger than my current 19" model (which will go to 1600x1200, but makes text a bit small to see clearly), what are the advantages, apart from sheer size? I seem to be able to get a round a project just fine. I have Info box / Navigator / Quick options on the left side, with a single column Toolbox (icons only), some regularly used tools across the top tool bar, and compact control box along the bottom. Still a reasonable size window to work in, and I get to keep my head fairly still not having to look around too much.

Someone sell me on something different (or give me ammunition to talk the bosses into it anyway).

here's what you do:

you call your local supplier - the guys you usually get your IT stuff from - and tell them you're thinking of taking the whole company on to X" displays at YxZ resolution and could you please evaluate a couple for a week.

give one to your boss and keep one yourself. just for a week. but i'll bet you will have to pry it away from his cold dead fingers in order to return it to the suppliers come friday afternoon . . .

i was happy working on my 15" powerbook (1280xsomethingorother) until i got my 17" powerbook. then i was ecstatic at working on 1650x1050. now i'm evaluating a 30" cinema display and every evening i fire up the 17" screen i'm cursing and squinting.

that said - i'll stick by my comments that the 30" is a little too big, and that the optimum would be two smaller displays side-by-side (or 'in front and to the side', or whatever configuration of them floats your boat).

and if he balks at the price start talking RSI, eyesight damage and litigation all in the same sentence.

Hi Ben

Great idea, demo-ing monitors, but I don't think the bosses would actually get that excited about bigger screens. They don't do any drawing for a start, so creating a MasterSpec specification ain't gonna be that much easier for them on a bigger screen, though they both have rapidly ailing eyes (can use lower resolution - bigger size, yeah). It would definitely be easier prying the monitor out of their "cold dead fingers" than prying money out! (you should see the state of our printer, that I've been trying to get them to upgrade for years)

We (I) did demo an LCD screen recently, but still only 19". It was nice, and photos / renderings were far sharper and more detailled, but I actually found working in Archicad it was TOO sharp and hard edged. And it flickered whenever i scrolled / zoomed. (Not fast enough referesh rate? - They said it was one of the better ones) Made my head hurt. Dunno, maybe my eyes are just too good!

A mate in Wellington sent me a photo of his 24" widescreen. Looked fabulous. As for your 30" screen - our TV at home is only a 28" widescreen. Couldn't imagine sitting 2 feet away from it trying to work all day.

I'll work on them...

Cheers

uh oh! every single person that i know who has made the leap from CRT to LCD - back in the UK and over here - has never looked back: the CRT's are an absolute killer on the eyes mate! you do need to get the refresh-rate right (just as you do a CRT monitor), but maybe your eyes are actually too bad already and the adjustment to LCD showed that up?! (or maybe your graphics cards weren't up to the job either?!)

we have a couple of dell 24" displays in the office . . . and i have to say that they're pretty bloody good! reasonably priced too, and you can almost always find somewhere that has them on special. i wouldn't recommend any lower than a 23" for working in archicad (laptops excluded!)

30" Dell LCD @ 1920x1200

I can't run it at it's native resolution of 2560x1600 because some non-adjustable menu / pallette fonts become microscopic as well as tool button, etc... (squint)

I like the size for palletes and have it on an adjustable arm so I can move it where I need it.

Dell 30" LCD

Was a dual monitor boy for long time until I tired this new set up.
Lots of space to work.
I think I still like the dual monitor set up as I can place 3D- window, the elevations/ sections and project navi. on my right and keep plan and tools on left monitor
Oh well
Maybe I need a 2nd Dell 30".

I've just moved to a 19" LCD from a 21" CRT and it's fantastic! No more sore eyes, headaches, blurry vision.

My refresh rate is 60hz.

How about Al Gore's set up? I guess being on Apple's board has it's advantages.
